Orthodontics Q&A

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics treatments include braces (metal brackets and wires) and clear aligners that shift crooked teeth into an ideal position within your mouth. These treatments straighten your teeth, improve your bite, and can do wonders to achieve a confident smile. The White Hill Dental experts use the latest advances in technology and procedures to ensure exceptional results.

What are the benefits of orthodontics?

The benefits of choosing orthodontics at White Hill Dental include:

  • Beautiful smile
  • Self-confidence

Orthodontics is a highly effective treatment that dramatically improves the appearance of your teeth. Your dentist customizes each treatment based on your unique needs and desired results.

Is orthodontics the right treatment for me?

To determine if you’re a candidate for orthodontics treatment, your White Hill Dental provider evaluates your teeth, gums, bite, and the results of your dental X-rays. They also review your oral health history and discuss symptoms you may have before personalizing your treatment.

You might first need a tooth extraction, tooth decay treatment, or other dental procedures before getting braces or clear aligners.

What happens during orthodontics treatment?

During treatment, you receive clear aligners or metal wires and brackets that shift your teeth into an ideal position. If you have braces, you must attend routine orthodontics visits to have the wires tightened.

Braces remain fixed in place until your dentist removes them, while you can remove Invisalign aligners from your teeth to eat and brush. Switch to another set of clear plastic aligners every week or two until you complete treatment.

Take good care of your teeth and gums during treatment by brushing after meals, flossing daily, and attending professional dental cleanings at least every six months.

How long will my treatment last?

Orthodontics treatment may take six months up to two years, or longer, depending on the type of treatment you undergo and the severity of dental problems you have. Every patient is different, which is why treatment times vary from person to person.
